Money is one of the most talked-about topics in the Bible — Jesus spoke about it more than almost any other subject. Yet many churches avoid the topic, leaving their congregations financially stressed and spiritually stunted in the area of generosity.
Reframe Giving as Worship
Giving is not a tax or a transaction — it is an act of worship. When we give, we declare that God is our provider, that we trust Him with our resources, and that His kingdom matters more than our comfort. Help your congregation see giving through this lens.
Teach the Whole Counsel of Scripture
The tithe is a starting point, not a ceiling. Teach the full biblical narrative of generosity — from Abraham's offering to the widow's mite to the early church's radical sharing. Help people understand that generosity is a journey, not a destination.
Share the Impact of Giving
People give more when they know their gift makes a difference. Regularly share stories of how giving has funded ministry, changed lives, and advanced the mission. Be specific: "Your giving this month funded 200 meals for families in our community."
Make Giving Accessible and Easy
Friction kills generosity. If giving requires finding a checkbook, locating an envelope, or navigating a confusing website, people give less. Make giving as easy as possible — online, mobile, recurring, and with multiple fund options. The easier it is to give, the more people give.
Model Generosity from the Top
Generosity is caught more than it is taught. When pastors and leaders model sacrificial giving — and are willing to share their own giving journey — it gives permission for the congregation to do the same.
A generous church is a healthy church. And a healthy church changes the world.
